Since 1977 the Pension Investment Association of Canada (PIAC) has been the forum for Canada’s pension plans to share information and knowledge. PIAC is composed of over 130 of the largest pension plans in the country. Senior professionals employed by PIAC’s member funds are responsible for the oversight and management of over $2 trillion in assets on behalf of millions of Canadians. Our membership includes pension funds of all sizes and types across Canada in both the private and public sectors.

PIAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Don Andrews as Executive Director, effective today. Don assumes this position after spending more than a year as Deputy Executive Director to learn about the operations of PIAC by shadowing Peter Waite, who led PIAC for 20 years. During this transition, Don was able to meet many members personally at conferences and events and has already implemented several significant changes in terms of volunteer engagement, advocacy outreach, and social media. Don has over 11 years of association experience and has an educational background in communications and marketing for associations with a Master’s degree in Communication & New Media. PIAC is hosting a member forum on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 12:00 - 1:00 PM Eastern to facilitate a group discussion on how peers engage with investment consultants. How does your plan utilize consultants when making portfolio construction decisions and selecting and monitoring investment managers? Does it vary by plan type (DC or DB)? Has your plan experienced turnover in the lead consultant servicing their account? Does the prevailing bundled-solution arrangement with record keepers create a barrier impeding DC plans from developing investment sophistication on par with DB plans? The forum will be moderated by Gaelan Hanlon and Cheryl Shea, Chair of PIAC's DC Committee.
